Events in Cutthorpe

There are plenty of happenings in Cutthorpe, below are some of them in photos (will continue to be updated) (click for larger images), on this page are photos for Well Dressing and Festival weekend, Burns Night celebrations

Burns Supper celebrations

Our second year of organising this celebration was just as popular as 2017 with 39 people coming along to enjoy themselves. Burns Night runs to a formula so last year’s photos are not dissimilar to 2018 but highlights for this year include Pete Stott’s rendition from memory of Tam O’Shanter (how could we not be impressed?), Helen’s brilliant violin playing and unforgettably David Shipstone’s bagpipe playing - with a few weeks to practice the 3 notes he achieved seemed to be quite sufficient for the assembled gathering and caused a considerable amount of hilarity - thanks David (he promises to play the full version next year)! Peter Friend gave an very entertaining Toast to Lassies, matched by Jane Johnstone’s Reply. Interspersed with Scottish songs for us all to join in with throughout the evening it was agreed by all to be very successful - thanks go to all those organising and taking on the tasks to make it run so seamlessly. Photos below give a taste of the evening (click for larger images).

Well Dressing and Festival Weekend

The Festival coincided with the celebration of the centenary of Cutthorpe Cricket Club, hence the topic for the well dressing. The weather for 2018 was hot and dry and despite competition from the World Cup and Wimbledon tennis over the same weekend we had a good turnout and everyone enjoyed themselves. The clear up on Sunday morning was hectic as it had to be ready for the cricket match later, but a good turnout of helpers got it done - more would be welcome next year!

Other Activities

The Village boasts a wealth of activities that keep the residents busy throughout the year including book clubs, motorbike group, walking group (Chumps), Creatives group, Choir, Pool Team, Flower arranging, plus committees who arrange the annual Festival, litter picking and bulb planting, production of our calendar, and much more. Photos of these may appear from time to time.
Thanks to Lydia for everything she does for the choir Meet 10.00 at the Tree and ride Saturday mornings

Christmas Party

We are very grateful to Paddy and John Robinson for allowing us to hold our village Christmas party in their beautiful farmhouse, right in the centre of the village. It was a fun filled evening for everyone. The party food laid out straight onto the foil covered table was a particular feature and talking point. Thanks to everyone for making it such a good evening.
